A Night to Remember

On Wednesday, May 24 The Frontenac Club played host to 125 people for "A Night to Remember", a charitable event hosted by the YGK Healthcare Champions and UHKF. To kick the event off, Emma Fitzgerald spoke on behalf of the YGK Healthcare Champions committee to introduce the fellow speakers and to explained the purpose of A Night to Remember, which was raising funds for the ABBY system and the #StandUptoStigma campaign.

First, Angela Lamb, Assistant Director of Care at Providence Care, went into detail on the importance of the ABBY system and the unique opportunity it gives to those living with dementia at Providence Manor. ABBY is a multi-interactive tool where users can experience various stimulating tasks that help with brain function and trigger pleasing memories of users. Staff can upload personal videos for residents, for example, a drive they've taken many times, change an AM/FM Radio tuner, or even pet a furry friend.

Next, Robin Robertson was introduced to speak about the Stand Up to Stigma campaign which aims to educate on mental health & addiction and end the stigma about speaking openly about those topics. Robin's work is important to opening dialogue surrounding mental health & addictions at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) and understands the importance of ending stigma around these diseases.

Throughout the evening, those in attendance were able to enjoy the beautiful space of the Frontenac Club while enjoying great live music in the courtyard, sipping refreshing beverages and snacking on satisfying hor d'oeuvres! A silent auction was held, where bidding on various packages from local businesses were auctioned off to support fundraising for the ABBY system and Stand Up to Stigma.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helping to make this event such a great success. Please follow YGK Healthcare Champions for further updates on this event and future fundraisers that ensure to assist in our communities' health care.

Thank you to BMO for sponsoring A Night to Remember.
