Rose of Hope Raising Funds for New MRI

Rose of Hope Raising Funds for New MRI Image

The 24th annual Rose of Hope Golf Tournament was on July 26, 2022 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club, and the event raised $285,000. Over the next five years, the Rose of Hope committee and the women of Cataraqui Golf and Country Club pledge to raise $1 million for a future MRI at Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s (KHSC) Breast Imaging Kingston facility.

Thanks to Rose of Hope, and other generous donors, the first patients were welcomed through Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s (KHSC) state-of-the-art Breast Imaging Kingston facility in March of this year.

“The ladies of the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club are taking on our biggest challenge in 24 years,” says Sherri McCullough, Chair, Rose of Hope committee. “There are 20,000 mammograms performed each year at KHSC and as many as 1,100 patients requiring an MRI of the breast. A new MRI at the Breast Imaging Kingston will not only complete the state-of-the-art facility, but it will free up thousands of appointments for those waiting for an MRI at KHSC.”

The visionary women behind the Rose of Hope golf tournament have raised nearly $2.5 million during their 23-year commitment to improving the diagnosis and care for women with breast cancer in the Kingston region. In 2018, the Rose of Hope committee signed a five-year pledge to raise $500,000 which they completed in 2020, two years ahead of schedule and during a pandemic.

"The Rose of Hope has been a long-time supporter of women’s breast care and health," says Karen Pearson, Director of Imaging Services, Kingston Health Sciences Centre. "This dynamic group has been a catalyst for diagnostic imaging on several major projects over the years. Through their efforts, we were able to purchase a state-of-the-art mammography unit for breast imaging, a prone table biopsy unit and a specimen imaging unit. Now through their spectacular generosity, never-ending energy and commitment to women’s health care, this group has committed to raising funds for an MRI unit that would be primarily dedicated to breast MRI. MRI is an integral component of breast imaging for many women and pathologies. The Rose of Hope continues to be a driving force that allows us to provide the best care possible to our patient population. The enormous gratitude I have for this group of women is beyond description!"

“We are so excited to be working with the Rose of Hope committee as they set their sights on their largest fundraising goal yet,” says Lori Faggiani, Director of Healthcare Engagement and Sustainability, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. “We are just so grateful to the women of the Cataraqui Golf Club and the Rose of Hope committee for their determination to raise funds for a new MRI at the Breast Imaging Kingston facility, located in Kingston’s east end at 820 John Marks Avenue! Their commitment to the best health care in our community is inspirational.”
