Carolanne Vair’s heart belongs to Hotel Dieu Hospital, where she worked before she retired. She gives because of what the hospital has done for her and her family.
Although for many years I have supported a number of charities, I more recently began to think about setting priorities in my gift giving. I felt that this way I could make a more substantial donation to an organization thereby having a greater impact. In the summer of 1988 I moved to Kingston to take on a administrative position at Hotel Dieu Hospital, the organization which I selected in 2008 to be the benefactor of my charitable donation. Hotel Dieu Hospital has been “near and dear” to my heart since my time of hire. The hospital provided me with many career opportunities and brought me a great deal of professional satisfaction. I fully support Hotel Dieu Hospital’s transition to an ambulatory hospital. In addition my family and I have been the recipients of excellent care at the hospital. The environment is unique – based on the values of the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph. I feel such loyalty to and have tremendous respect for the Sisters as they have lived through and managed many challenges. I donated to Hotel Dieu Hospital in order to give back to the organization that has provided high quality service to my family; to the organization that was good to me during the final phase of my career and to support the ongoing development of a first class ambulatory centre.
