John Gordon is a KGH donor because the cardiac specialists there gave him a second chance on life.
In the fall of 1987, I was playing a game of squash with my son when I felt out of breath. The game ended and I returned home thinking I was just somewhat out-of-shape. But the feeling got worse. I had a busy day ahead of me and decided that I would wait to see my doctor the following afternoon. What happened next took my breath away, both literally and figuratively. I was rushed by ambulance from the doctor’s office to KGH and my chest was cracked open within 24 hours. I had been suffering from a leaky valve which, had it not been caught and repaired immediately, would have been fatal. After time in intensive care and a step-down unit at the hospital, I was back at my office at Queen’s School of Business. I continue to be followed by the cardiac specialists at KGH and credit them with giving me another chance to challenge my son on the squash court. Today, I dedicate my time to the hospital which saved my life, by both donating and serving on the KGH Board of Governors.
