University Hospitals Kingston Foundation Celebrates Gift from Songs from the Heart

July 21,2010/-KINGSTON, ON – Kingston’s hospitals celebrated today with the organizers and sponsors of the Songs from the Heart fundraiser.  In February a benefit concert was held at the Grand Theatre to raise awareness and funds for cardiac care.

The event raised $9,000.00 for the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation with funds being directed to the cardiac care program programs at Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) and Kingston General Hospital (KGH).

The concert was conceived by veteran Canadian musician Cliff Edwards, who was inspired by the exceptional care he received through the cardiac care program when he was a patient four years ago. Mr. Edwards brought together special musical guests to perform at Songs from the Heart, including the Barra MacNeils, The Wilkins, Blazz and David Hurley.  The costs of the performances were sponsored by J. E. Agnew Foods Services Limited and Corus Entertainment, ensuring a spectacular musical evening for the audience of over 300 guests.

Dr. Chris Simpson, Medical Director, Cardiac Program and KGH Chief Operating Officer Jim Flett, both expressed thanks to Mr. Edwards and the corporate sponsors for their commitment and dedication.  Dr. Simpson said “We deeply appreciate your enthusiasm and generosity in bringing the community together in support of our cardiac programs.”
