Our hospitals

Collectively, Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and the Cancer Centre, and Providence Care are Kingston's university hospitals, providing highly specialized care to more than 500,000 people throughout our region, leading pioneering research and training the health care professionals of tomorrow. Together, our hospitals are leading care and changing lives.

What our hospitals do:

  • Hotel Dieu Hospital iis the ambulatory care (outpatient) centre, recording more than 370,000 specialized clinic visits, day surgeries and other procedures each year.
  • Kingston General Hospital serves the needs of our most acutely ill patients – those who need highly-specialized emergency, surgical or medical care, including those with cancer.
  • Providence Care serves patients with complex, rehabilitation, geriatric and mental healthcare needs at three sites – Mental Health Services, Providence Manor and St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital.

  • Have nearly 19,000 inpatient/resident admissions and almost 500,000 outpatient/outreach visits each year.
  • Provide direct health services to nine regional hospitals and many community locations – half of our patient visits are from people who live outside Kingston.
  • Make an annual regional economic impact of almost $840+ million.
  • Employ nearly 5,500 people, and create indirect employment of nearly 3,700.
  • Have nearly 900 volunteers who put in more than 65,000 hours a year.
  • Serve as the clinical classroom for more than 2,000 students a year, including doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.
  • Are home to some of Canada’s leading researchers.
