$100,000 Gift from Peter and Frances Splinter to Support Providence Care

July 26,2010/-KINGSTON, ON  – Kingston’s hospitals celebrated the announcement today of a $100,000 pledge from Peter and Frances Splinter to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF), the fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital, and Providence Care.

The gift will support the Providence Care redevelopment campaign to build new facilities for patients, clients and residents who require complex continuing care, rehabilitative care, specialized geriatric care, palliative care, and longer term mental health services.

The Splinters have been long time benefactors in the Kingston community and great supporters of Kingston’s hospitals and the Foundation. Mr. Splinter has served on both the Board of Providence Care Foundation and on the Board of University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

In announcing today’s gift Peter Splinter said, “Frances and I are very proud to contribute to the renewal and redevelopment of Providence Care.  We are honoured to support this wonderful facility, which was built upon the spirit and traditions of the Sisters of Providence of St. Vincent DePaul.  We know that every day, in every way, their values of respect, dignity and compassion are practiced here.”

Providence Care Board Chair, Glen Wood, thanked the couple saying, “We deeply appreciate your past and continuing commitment to Providence Care. The generous gift you have offered today will provide a lasting contribution that will serve the community for years to come.”

The $70-million Together We Can campaign is the largest and most important health care fundraising initiative in the history of Southeastern Ontario. Led by the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, the joint fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care, the campaign will raise money for the redevelopment of our hospitals, the purchasing of equipment and the funding of medical research and staff education.
