One of Kingston’s most prestigious awards for philanthropy were presented to the outstanding individual and organization nominees last night at the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation’s Community Celebration for donors.
The 2010 Davies Award for Philanthropic Leadership individual award went to Mrs. Geraldine Tepper, and the award for philanthropic leadership by an organization was given to The Rose of Hope Golf Tournament Committee.
“We are very pleased to recognize the exceptional contributions of Geraldine Tepper and the Rose of Hope Golf Tournament Committee.” said Peter Merkley, Chair of the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. “Their leadership and dedication to the Together We Can campaign and to our hospitals is truly inspiring.”

Geraldine Tepper has provided outstanding leadership and support for our health care community in a variety of roles over the past 25 years. She has served on the Board of Directors of Hotel Dieu Hospital including a term as Board Chair, and also on the Board of Directors of the Jeanne Mance Foundation since 1992 where she is the current Chair. Mrs. Tepper has championed the cause of health care in our community by making significant financial gifts to the hospitals, helping to promote estate gifts and accepting leadership roles in very challenging and demanding times over many years.

The Rose of Hope Golf Tournament is an exceptional fundraising success which, over the past ten years, has raised proceeds totaling more than $700,000 for cancer programs and research. The tournament is held annually at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club and is supported by the steadfast dedication of the Committee, the generous backing of over two hundred sponsors, and the full support of all Club members. The current Committee is busy preparing for this year’s Tournament to be held on July 27th, the last Tuesday of July, which has been proclaimed by the City of Kingston as Rose of Hope Day.
The Davies Award for Philanthropic Leadership is annually awarded to an individual and to an organization for outstanding philanthropic leadership benefiting Kingston’s university hospitals and the provision of health care for the people of Kingston and Southeastern Ontario. They are presented by Kingston philanthropists Michael and Elaine Davies. The award was originally created by the Kingston General Hospital Foundation in honour of its 25th Anniversary in 2005.
The $70-million Together We Can campaign is the largest and most important health care fundraising initiative in the history of Southeastern Ontario. Led by the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, the joint fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care, the campaign will raise money for the redevelopment of our hospitals, the purchasing of equipment, fund medical research and support staff education.
