Building Stronger Communities Together: Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life

June 22,2010/-KINGSTON, Ontario

Kingston’s hospitals today celebrated the announcement of a $75,000 pledge to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation from Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. The gift, through the companies’ national corporate citizenship program, will support capital redevelopment projects, and is to be shared where needed most to benefit Kingston’s three hospitals: Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care.

Rick Tomalty, Regional Director, Freedom 55 Financial, the financial security planning division of London Life, announced the donation.

“We are very proud to support the Together We Can campaign for Kingston’s hospitals. We believe in building stronger communities together where we live and work. We hope this gift inspires a corporate commitment to giving throughout the community, and encourages the continued support for this important campaign.”

Representatives from the three hospitals thanked the companies for their gift, and provided a brief explanation of the redevelopment projects underway at each hospital.

Denise Cumming, Executive Director, University Hospitals Kingston Foundation said, “Kingston’s hospitals appreciate this generous gift and the community leadership it demonstrates. We have already seen our first two redevelopment projects come to life; this contribution of an unrestricted gift allows the funds to go where most needed to help complete the redevelopment.”

Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life have each helped Canadians meet their financial security needs for over 100 years, and have also provided support to hundreds of charitable, non-profit and community-based organizations across the country.

The $70-million Together We Can campaign is the largest and most important health care fundraising initiative in the history of Southeastern Ontario. Led by the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, the joint fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care, the campaign will raise money for the redevelopment of our hospitals, the purchasing of equipment and the funding of medical research and staff education.
