July 23, 2009/- Olympic hockey star Jayna Hefford’s charity golf tournament has made a $15,000 donation to support cancer and palliative care at Kingston’s university hospitals. The money was raised through the Jayna Hefford Links 4 Life Golf Classic July 18 at Smugglers Glen Golf and Country Club. Hefford created the golf tournament in memory of her father, Larry, who died from cancer. The announcement was made this morning at Hefford’s hockey school for girls at the InVista Centre in Kingston.
The donation will be included in the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation’s $70-million Together We Can campaign. The Campaign has currently raised $59-million.
A Kingston native, Jayna Hefford has played forward for the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team since 1998, winning two Gold medals. She has played in eight world championships.
