As a registered charitable organization, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation issues official gift receipts for all contributions. That receipt can then be used to receive a federal and provincial tax credit on your annual income tax return.
The size of your credit varies depending on the province in which you live. You can claim all of part of each donation up to the limit of 75% of your net income for the year. Either spouse can claim the tax credit, regardless of whose name is on the charitable donation receipt. And remember: unclaimed donations can be carried forward for up to 5 years.
If you choose to donate shares or other securities, you could be eligible for a tax break on any resulting capital gain. Please note: the shares or securities you donate must be listed on prescribed stock exchanges.
