TD Bank Financial Group Donates $250,000

December 11, 2008/- With growing concerns facing health care professionals regarding the lack of funding for career development, the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation is pleased to announce it has received a $250,000 grant from TD Bank Financial Group in support of the $70 million Together We Can campaign. The funds were donated through the TD Grants in Medical Excellence program and will go towards education and training for staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital (KGH) and Providence Care.

“Thanks to TD Bank Financial Group the staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital, KGH and Providence Care will have access to training and education that will benefit our hospitals, our patients and all the people in Southeastern Ontario,” said Ian Wilson, Chair of the Together We Can campaign.

Of the $250,000 donation, $180,000 will be used to launch an advanced online education management system to provide staff at Hotel Dieu Hospital and KGH with 24-hour access to essential education and training programs. These programs will directly enhance their ability to provide exceptional patient care. The remaining $70,000 will be used to establish the Providence Care Leadership Program and will help provide staff at Providence Care with the necessary skills to successfully lead health care teams.

”TD is pleased to support medical practitioners in hospitals and health care facilities across the country,” said Mike Brunette, District Vice-President, TD Canada Trust. “With medicine and health care constantly changing, the TD Grants in Medical Excellence program helps our doctors, nurses and other health care professionals in their quest for greater learning so they can provide the best care possible.”

TD Bank Financial Group’s support was included as part of the $57 million “raised to date” total announced earlier this month by Together We Can Campaign organizers.
