“Give the Gift of Health Care” program launched for 2008 holiday season

November 12, 2008/- Need a holiday gift idea for that special someone who has everything? Consider making a donation in their honour to Kingston’s university hospitals. The University Hospitals Kingston Foundation has launched a new program, called Give the Gift of Health Care, to allow people to give a gift to someone they care about this holiday season, while supporting our hospitals at the same time.

“Health care is something that affects all of us. When you make a donation in honour of someone through the Give the Gift of Health Care you’re giving one of the most special gifts of all – the gift of health care,” said Ian Wilson, Chair of the Together We Can campaign.

People can make a donation to Give the Gift of Health Care by visiting the Foundation website or by calling the Foundation. With each gift made, the giver will be able to create a personalized card to send to the loved one they’re honouring. Donors can choose between five different cards – Hanukkah, Santa Claus, traditional Christmas, Season’s Greetings or New Year’s.

Details about the Give the Gift of Health Care program are available online at www.kingstonhospitalsfoundation.ca.or by phone from the Foundation: 613-549-5452 or toll-free in Southeastern Ontario at 866-549-5452.

“The holiday season is a time of giving. For some, it is a time to remember our faith. For others, it is about giving to those we love or celebrating the start of a new year. During this season we honour our family and people we care about with gifts. Give the Gift of Health Care will allow donors to do just that and help our hospitals, too,” said Wilson.

The funds raised through the program will be counted in the $70 million Together We Can campaign – the largest and most important health care fundraising initiative in the history of Southeastern Ontario. The Together We Can campaign announced September 25th that it had reached $55 million and on Nov. 10th it had reached $57 million.
