October 7, 2008/- The results for Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign in Kingston are in and campaign organizers are all smiles. Tim Hortons customers bought 20,000 Smile Cookies between September 22nd and 29th. At $1.00 a piece, the campaign raised $20,000 for the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation to support redevelopment of Kingston General Hospital.
The funds for the sale of the special, smiling chocolate chunk cookies will be counted in the $70 million Together We Can campaign – the largest and most important health care fundraising initiative in the history of Southeastern Ontario. Together We Can announced September 25th that it had reached $55 million.
“We’re very grateful for all the support Tim Hortons customers in Kingston have given to the redevelopment of KGH,” said Ian Wilson, Chair of the Together We Can campaign. “We also want to thank local Tim Hortons franchisee J.E. Agnew Food Services Ltd and all of their staff for their help with the Smile Cookie campaign. What makes this result so sweet is that we all will benefit from the redevelopment of our hospitals.”
“This is a perfect example of how working together will improve health care in our community”, said Sherri Agnew, CEO of J.E. Agnew Food Services Ltd.
Tim Hortons has been supporting local communities through the Smile Cookie program since 1996. The “Smile Cookie” program originally began in Hamilton, Ontario to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital. Since then, it has expanded across Canada helping a variety of children’s charities, hospitals and community programs.
