Providence Care

Providence Care traces its roots back to 1861 when the Sisters of Providence established what is now Providence Manor. Called “The House of Providence”, it was a home for orphans, the homeless and the aged. The name changed to Providence Manor in 1970 and the property was replaced by a new building in 1991. Providence Manor and St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital came together in 1991 to form Providence Continuing Care Centre. Providence took over governance of Mental Health Services on King Street West in 2001. In 2007, the identity of the organization was changed to Providence Care.

The Providence Care Foundation
The Providence Care Foundation’s role is to disburse donations from donors to our Kingston sites – St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, Mental Health Services and Providence Manor. It administers and invest the various endowment and program funds it holds in a responsible manner.

Compassionate care is the hallmark of Providence Care. The mission of the Foundation is to protect and enhance this care by providing the resources and equipment to enable staff to meet the needs of residents, patients, and clients. Providence Care provides services in long-term care, palliative care, complex continuing care, geriatric medicine, rehabilitation, forensics, and mental health. With so many demands on the health care system, it is not possible to meet all the needs through government funding alone. The support of the Foundation is crucial in ensuring that our legacy of compassionate care continues today and for generations to come.

Thank you for supporting Providence Care.
