Public urged to use emergency services at Kingston hospitals wisely through summer months

The Urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu Hospital and Emergency Department at Kingston General Hospital are advising people needing non-urgent medical care to see their family doctor or to use walk-in medical clinics during the busy summer season, especially during the holiday weekends.

The hospitals are asking the public to:

• Come to the Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department only when necessary.

• Bring less urgent injuries (i.e., those that cannot wait for a family doctor visit) to the Urgent Care Centre at Hotel Dieu, open 8 am to 10 pm, 365 days per year, for non-life threatening illnesses or injuries.

• Bring serious illnesses and injuries to the KGH Emergency, open 24 hours a day.

• Ensure everyone in your family has sufficient medication, both prescription and non-prescription, to last over the holiday season.

• Contact Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000 for health advice and general health information.
