Foundation study looks at yoga and meditation for lowering blood pressure
The Heart and Stroke Foundation is funding a study of how effectively stress-relief techniques such as yoga and meditation can reduce blood pressure.According to the earlier InterHeart study, stress was the one modifiable risk factor that accounted for 90% of first heart attacks. This may be because stress is linked to high blood pressure – a condition affecting five million Canadians. Read more...

Ontario Government Adding 14 More Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics
Ontario is calling for applications for 14 new Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics as part of the government's commitment to increase access to family health care. Nurse practitioners are able to treat common illnesses and injuries, and order lab tests, X-rays and other diagnostic tests. They can also refer patients to specialists. The Numbers are In
Over 10,000 students tuned out television for TV Turnoff Challenge.  For the tenth consecutive year, children, youth, and families across the KFL&A area tuned out TV for the week of April 12 to 16, 2010. Numbers from this year’s challenge show that over 10,000 students from 50 local schools, including the Limestone District School Board, Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, and area private schools, participated along with families and 14 area daycares and 500 toddlers.

Wednesday, June 2 is Clean Air Day
That's the day the City offers free rides on Kingston Transit and conducts an anti-idling blitz to encourage residents to spare the air by choosing active forms of transportation and eliminating unnecessary idling.

Choosing an active form of transportation, such as riding the bus, walking, or cycling to destinations, cuts down on car-generated smog.   One bus-load of passengers removes 40 cars from the road and avoids more than 175 tonnes of emissions a year, according to the National Clean Air Day site.
