University Hospitals Kingston Foundation was incorporated 1 December 2005 to serve as the fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care.
Since our founding, we’ve generated more than $65 million in cash and pledges to support patient care research and education at our hospitals, thanks to the generosity of more than 35,000 community donors.
The roles of our foundation are to fundraise and to celebrate the gifts that are committed by donors. We transfer all funds raised over to the General Member foundations at each of our hospitals. They continue to be responsible for investing and distributing these funds, as well as for reporting back to us on how the funds are used.
Our fundraising supports patient care, research and education priorities that are defined for us by our General Members. Our current focus is on raising the local share for the capital redevelopment projects taking place at all three of our hospitals.
Though our solicitation of gifts is focused on specific priorities, UHKF accepts restricted gifts to all areas of patient care, research and education within any of the three hospitals and ensures that the restrictions attached to gifts are complied with in the use of the funds.
Our revenue and expenses are shared among these General Members using a formula that they determine through consultation and negotiation.
Our foundation is unique within Ontario, in serving three completely independent health care corporations, and is recognized with the healthcare philanthropy sector as a leader in partnership fundraising.
