A short history, a big future

University Hospitals Kingston Foundation is the fundraising arm for Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and Providence Care. In 2002, our hospitals identified a need for significant redevelopment for our health care system. The hospitals’ foundations decided to join together and create a joint fundraising program to bring the most community financial support into our local health care system in the most efficient way.

In October 2005, the new organization was officially incorporated and a board of directors, representing the three hospital foundations equally, was appointed. While the hospitals’ continue to operate their existing foundations as stewards of the funds raised for each institution, all active fundraising is carried out by the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

The Foundation launched its first joint annual mail campaign in November 2005, inviting donors to direct their gifts to a specific hospital or program, or to make a gift that benefits all the hospitals.

In July 2006, the Foundation legally changed its name to University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

The Foundation celebrated its first birthday in October, 2006. In its first year of operation it had raised some $4 million from more than 13,000 donors.

In June, 2007, the Foundation hit a new milestone announcing it had raised $11 million in gifts and pledges for our hospitals in fiscal 2006-2007 – the most money raised for our health care in a single year. The Foundation sent the three hospitals nearly a million more dollars that year than the year before.
