Celebrating Philanthropy!

November 17,2010/-KINGSTON, ON
UHKF is very proud that two of our nominees for Outstanding Philanthropic Awards were honoured by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Southeastern Ontario Chapter.

The Lions Club District A3 was named the 2010 Outstanding Philanthropic Organization.  Lions members throughout the district have worked together to support health care in Southeastern Ontario and were nominated by both UHKF and Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation.  District A3 has raised over $350,000 for the two foundations, and also earned a Lions Club International grant to fund the purchase of specialized ophthalmology equipment at Hotel Dieu Hospital.

And Michael and Elaine Davies, the Honourary co-chairs of Together We Can, were presented with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award and were nominated by both UHKF and Queen’s University.  Michael and Elaine are recognized for their leadership and dedication to numerous arts, health and education organizations in Southeastern Ontario.  Michael Davies chaired the Healthcare 2000 campaign and has been a long time member of the President’s Counsel of Kingston General Hospital Foundation. The Davies' generous and steadfast commitment has had a tremendous impact on our community, including our hospitals.

The awards were presented at the local chapter’s annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on National Philanthropy Day 2010, November 17th.  Past AFP award winners who were nominated by UHKF include Brit Smith, Ian Wilson, Larry Gibson, and Edward Goodfellow and Andrew Fazackerley of Strokes Fore Hopes.
